Kitchen assistant

  • Join the Loaded Ladle by serving food to the community during Tuesday markets!

    Tasks include connecting with market attendees, serving food, cleaning up space and sharing the recipe of the week.

  • Located at the Mobile Food Market located at 26 Courtney Rd. every Tuesday from 3:00pm - 6:00pm.

  • This is a great role for friendly and community-minded people who enjoy connecting with others over food. You’re comfortable chatting with market attendees, serving meals with care, and helping keep the space welcoming and clean. You enjoy being part of a supportive team and don’t mind pitching in — whether it’s setting up, tidying up, or sharing the recipe of the week.

  • You will be required to attend a MFM Volunteer orientation, and then you will also receive in-person training for this role from the MFM Team

SENIORS DELIVERY

  • This is a low barrier and accessible way for seniors within the Fairview community to shop for groceries. Volunteers will put together senior's grocery baskets that they have pre-ordered, deliver the baskets to their homes, and take payment. This role does not require a vehicle but it is recommended at least 1 volunteer has access to one.

  • This take place during the the Fairview Saturday shift and has a commitment of 9:30am - 11:00am, starting and ending at Centernnial Arena, 27 Vimy Ave, Halifax, NS.

  • This role is a great fit for caring and reliable people who enjoy helping others and being part of their community. You’re comfortable chatting with seniors, lending a hand with grocery baskets, and handling deliveries with care. You work well with others, can lift and carry groceries, and bring a friendly attitude to each visit. A vehicle isn’t required, though it’s helpful if at least one volunteer on your team has access to one. You have a completed Criminal Record/ Vulnerable Sector Check.

  • You will receive an in-person orientation and one-on-one support from the MFM team.

VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM

Interested in joining the Mobile Food Market as a volunteer? Tell us more about yourself in the form below, and we will be in touch about next steps within 5 days.

  • This role supports in the successful operation of our market days. Responsibilities include assisting in market set-up, working cooperatively with community volunteers, greeting guests, handling cash, restocking produce, and working to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

  • The North Dartmouth Tuesday shifts are 3:30pm-6:30pm and are at 26 Courtney Rd.

    The Fairview Saturday shifts are 9:30am - 11:00am at the Centennial Arena, 27 Vimy Ave., Halifax, NS.

    The North End Saturday shifts are 1:00pm - 2:30pm at the Multi-Purpose Room of George Dickson Center, 2501 Gottingen Street, Halifax, NS.

  • This is a great role for outgoing and friendly people and can also do some lifting and moving of produce. You like being part of a team but are happy to work independently. You are comfortable talking to and cashing out customers.

  • You will be required to attend a MFM Volunteer orientation and then you will also receive in-person training for this role from the MFM Team.

MARKET PREP

  • This role includes weighing, sorting, and organizing produce. This is physical work, that involves handling and bagging food, generally under 30lbs and under.

  • Market Prep takes place at the Home of Mobile Food Market located at 26 Courtney Rd. Every Friday, from 10:00am - 12:00pm.

  • First and foremost, you’re reliable.You have good attention to detail and enjoy working alongside others. This is physical work, that involves handling and bagging food, generally 25lbs and under, carrying /setting up tables, chairs, market signs, etc.

  • You will be required to attend a MFM Volunteer orientation, and then you will also receive in-person training for this role from the MFM Team
