Mobile Food Market Celebrates 10 Years of Rolling Fresh Food Into Communities

Mobile Food Market marked an important milestone this November, celebrating ten years of bringing fresh and affordable produce to neighbourhoods across the Halifax region.

The Market has always had one clear goal: to make available affordable, high quality, fresh vegetables and fruit in communities that have limited access to healthy food. It is a simple mission, but one that continues to make a real difference for many households.

The anniversary event brought together community members, volunteers, board members, and staff for an evening of music, food, and connection. The gathering created a warm and welcoming space for people who have been part of the Market’s journey in different ways over the past decade.

Several special guests joined the celebration, and we celebrated with music from De’Wolfe Pack and food by Chef Matt VanderHide. Attendees included The Honourable Mike Savage, ONS, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, and Her Honour, Darlene Savage, as well as Mayor Andy Fillmore, MLA Susan Leblanc of Dartmouth North, and MLA Lena Hamid of Fairview. Their presence highlighted the strong community support behind the Market and the shared belief that access to healthy food matters.

Mobile Food Market extends a sincere thank you to New Ground Financial, who sponsored the food for the evening. Their support helped bring the community together for this meaningful milestone.

As Mobile Food Market looks ahead, the focus remains the same. The team will continue showing up each week with fresh food, fair prices, and a friendly presence. The past ten years have been shaped by the many partners, volunteers, supporters, and community members who believe in this work and help keep it moving.

Here’s to the next decade of bringing fresh food a little closer to home, one stop at a time.
